First off let me provide some basic info so you have an understanding of the use, location, and expectations for this TV. Let me state that this is the first HDTV we have ever owned. This is a replacement for a functioning 25" Zenith color console with a rotary dial (only has a flat UHF and VHF input) that we purchased new 25 plus years ago. We have basic cable (Time Warner) that was hooked up to the old TV through a VHS and DVD (separate) player. We started researching HDTV's last year. After information overload from all of the various manufactures as to why they were better we settled on the Samsung brand just to start narrowing it down. After that we took up the Plasma vs. LCD. We settled on the LCD and then quickly narrowed it down to the 46" model based upon our living room layout. My wife and I bought this bad boy last week from Amazon, and it arrived in 4 days flat with their great delivery service. We decided to hang it up on our masonry fireplace. We chose a Sanus tilting mount for the job, which was surprisingly easy to attach to the masonry.

The 850 is special because it's super thin. 1.9" at it's thickest point. This makes wall mounting especially attractive. Throw in the excellent picture, and I'm on cloud nine.

After one day of enjoying it, I say that while I'm impressed with the clarity of the 120Hz feature, my wife and I keep the setting set to "low", which introduces a higher framerate, but not so high as to be actively distracting. For us, the "camcorder-like" feeling of the full 120Hz is best for sports, as opposed to movies/tv.

Bottom line: The Samsung LCD's are amazing to begin with, and the "8" series, given it's thin frame, adds some extra style. Keep that in mind when your comparing this model to all...

Best 46 in LCD
I just got this TV set up and going last weekend and after tweaking all of the settings, this is truly the best TV I've ever owned. I previously had a 30 in tube HDTV. The 850 equals all the best qualities of the CRT and has dozens of tweaks to zero in on the best picture for each type of input.

I'm getting my HD signal over the air with a UHF antenna. I have my basic cable running through the S Video input since I don't have any HDMI outputs from my cable box. HD is awesome and standard definition is excellent.

What sets this set apart from many others is the USB input. I've put my pictures on a thumb drive, plugged it in and wow. My pictures have never looked better and I'll never look at a 4x6 print again.

I have yet to hook up my PC to the TV through the wiselink, but that's next where I'll be able to browse and play all of my movie files. Of course you can put your movies on a thumb drive just get an 8 gig for the movie files...

1. Very happy with my purchase. 240Hz is cool.
I received my LN40B750 this past Friday and have now had all weekend to kick the tires and be amazed at its capabilities. I had already submitted a review, but not sure where it went.

As I had stated in my now missing review, I am very impressed with this set's image quality and ease of use. Setup was pretty easy and only required me to fasten 4 screws to mount and lock the base to the bottom of the set. Connected the optical out to my receiver (Yamama RX-V750) and ran my DVD player's component cables right into the set. Now, I can finally enjoy progressive scan mode. What a HUGE difference that made! One thing I have to address is a negative comment made by another person who was complaining of stereo output from the optical out jack, instead of 5.1 surround sound. This is 100% contingent on what the broadcaster is pushing out, NOT the TV. Yes Jimmy, the evening news ONLY needs to be in plain vanilla stereo, not 5.1 surround sound. I can confirm that it does push out L/R...

2. Excellent Picture, No red bezel!
Wow! This panel is really amazing. I have been researching sets for several months. It came down to the Sony XBR6 and the Samsung A650. Quite frankly I loved the Samsung picture but could not really accept the red "Touch of Color" bezels... just a personal choice I guess. Anyways, I purchased the Sony a few weeks ago on clearance and thought I was getting a great deal. Unfortunately the picture on the Sony was a real let down. It seemed dull and dim (even after adjusting the settings several times per different recommendations online and turning off the auto-dimming setting). My old DLP set even seemed crisper when I compared them side by side which was just not acceptable. Perhaps I got a bunk panel but after googling "dim XBR6" it seems like several people noticed the same thing I did.

I started doing more research and noticed that Amazon started carrying this television within the last week or two. Samsung must have caught on that they were losing sales due...

A very good LCD set, with some useless extras
I shopped around quite a bit before deciding on this set, and now that it's in the house, I would most certainly purchase again. I'll keep this short and sweet:

THE GOOD

- Absolutely stunning picture quality, with a wide array of picture adjustment options. As with any LCD/Plasma, though, be prepared to spend some time adjusting these settings depending on input source, room conditions, and personal preference.

- User menu is well organized, easy to understand, and overall responds quickly to input commands.

- The set itself is very attractive. The glossy black finish and charcoal grey ToC compliment my other equipment nicely - much more appealing than the red ToC found on other Samsung sets. Also, the stand allows the TV to rotate, which is a plus.

- The 240 Hz refresh rate is nice, but not as big of an improvement as 120 Hz is over 60 Hz.

THE BAD

1. Took the plunge and went BIG...
First off, let me say I am not a "Google fan boy" as the fact that its made with Google products didn't really matter to me. My decision was concluded after widespread research of many TVs from different brands offering different products. I didn't buy it because it had Google stamped on it, so I am unbiased in my decision making. In my opinion, this was the best choice for my setup for my own reasons. Your needs may be different.

So I was torn apart from the 55GA6400 and the 55GA7900. I was in the market for a new TV and did a TON of research, looking various TVs based on the following:

3D: Active Vs. Passive. I prefer Passive, because you don't need to purchase batteries, many TVs already come with a few pair of passive glasses and from my experience they are easier on the eyes. The price for the glasses of active are astronomical! This tv is passive.

120hz vs 240hz: It doesn't really matter to me because having any TV is better than none at all...

2. Beautiful Display with Endless Possibilities
UPDATE:

I watched the DVD version of Oz the Great and Powerful last night and decided to turn on the 2D to 3D conversion, it was great! I have found that the 2D to 3D conversion works great on movies that were made in 3D (I get most of my movies from Netflix [DVD] so watching great 3D movies on a budget is not easy since I cannot afford to purchase all of the disks that I want to see on 3D and Netflix does not rent out 3D Blu-Ray [to my knowledge]). I have tried the 2D to 3D conversion on other stuff and it works, but is not amazing 3D effects, but movies that were originally in 3D look great even when watching the DVD version!

UPDATE:

My problem with the UP arrow and UP roller were found to be a problem with the Remote control, I called LG and they sent me a new Remote for free and it arrived quickly! Their was no problems at all and the representative was super helpful and once the problem was found to be the remote sent a new one for free...

Truly Amazing TV Experience
I got this TV a few weeks ago, and have been really enjoying having it. I was not in the market for a new TV, but I am definitely really glad that I got this one. Below are some of my experiences and observations thus far. I may add some more info as I get to know this TV more in the upcoming years.

Despite it being a fairly big 47" TV, setting this device up was a breeze. It is remarkably light, and even though you are supposed to set it up with someone else helping you out, a reasonably strong person could do it by himself. The connections and all the other setup features were also reasonably easy to figure out and configure, although this could be just my bias - over the years I've set up a fair number of TVs and other "screen"-based devices, so I am very familiar with all of its ins and outs. If, on the other hand, you don't know the difference between, say an HDMI and component cables, then you might want to have someone a bit more...

The LG 42GA6400 is a mixture of solid performance and underdeveloped promise. At the time of this review (May 2013), the 42GA6400 is a 4-star television. I put that disclaimer up front because I firmly believe that some thoughtful software fixes could definitely bump this TV up to 5-stars.

I'll start with the physical specifications of the television first. Assembly of the stand is pretty typical for LCD sets, and I had no problem attaching the 8 screws required to get the TV in an upright position by myself. This LCD TVs give to us some advantages, good reviews already proving the quality of this product, like this :
1. Took the plunge and went BIG...
First off, let me say I am not a "Google fan boy" as the fact that its made with Google products didn't really matter to me. My decision was concluded after widespread research of many TVs from different brands offering different products. I didn't buy it because it had Google stamped on it, so I am unbiased in my decision making. In my opinion, this was the best choice for my setup for my own reasons. Your needs may be different.

So I was torn apart from the 55GA6400 and the 55GA7900. I was in the market for a new TV and did a TON of research, looking various TVs based on the following:

3D: Active Vs. Passive. I prefer Passive, because you don't need to purchase batteries, many TVs already come with a few pair of passive glasses and from my experience they are easier on the eyes. The price for the glasses of active are astronomical! This tv is passive.

120hz vs 240hz: It doesn't really matter to me because having any TV is better than none at all...

2. Beautiful Display with Endless Possibilities
UPDATE:

I watched the DVD version of Oz the Great and Powerful last night and decided to turn on the 2D to 3D conversion, it was great! I have found that the 2D to 3D conversion works great on movies that were made in 3D (I get most of my movies from Netflix [DVD] so watching great 3D movies on a budget is not easy since I cannot afford to purchase all of the disks that I want to see on 3D and Netflix does not rent out 3D Blu-Ray [to my knowledge]). I have tried the 2D to 3D conversion on other stuff and it works, but is not amazing 3D effects, but movies that were originally in 3D look great even when watching the DVD version!

UPDATE:

My problem with the UP arrow and UP roller were found to be a problem with the Remote control, I called LG and they sent me a new Remote for free and it arrived quickly! Their was no problems at all and the representative was super helpful and once the problem was found to be the remote sent a new one for free...

Truly Amazing TV Experience
I got this TV a few weeks ago, and have been really enjoying having it. I was not in the market for a new TV, but I am definitely really glad that I got this one. Below are some of my experiences and observations thus far. I may add some more info as I get to know this TV more in the upcoming years.

Despite it being a fairly big 47" TV, setting this device up was a breeze. It is remarkably light, and even though you are supposed to set it up with someone else helping you out, a reasonably strong person could do it by himself. The connections and all the other setup features were also reasonably easy to figure out and configure, although this could be just my bias - over the years I've set up a fair number of TVs and other "screen"-based devices, so I am very familiar with all of its ins and outs. If, on the other hand, you don't know the difference between, say an HDMI and component cables, then you might want to have someone a bit more...

1. Sooooo close....
The LG 42GA6400 is a mixture of solid performance and underdeveloped promise. At the time of this review (May 2013), the 42GA6400 is a 4-star television. I put that disclaimer up front because I firmly believe that some thoughtful software fixes could definitely bump this TV up to 5-stars.

HARDWARE
I'll start with the physical specifications of the television first. Assembly of the stand is pretty typical for LCD sets, and I had no problem attaching the 8 screws required to get the TV in an upright position by myself. I would have preferred a base with a standard X pattern, but the two "arms coming out to hug you" stand is stable enough and doesn't take up a huge footprint. It's somewhat of a bummer, but the stand lacks a tilt/rotation capability. There are 4 HDMI inputs on the side of the TV, a headphone output, an optical out, USB inputs, and some 1/8" jacks that allow you to plug in composite and component in cables via the supplied adapters. Great TV gets better with GOOGLE TV
Picked up this TV last week, and really starting to love it. Takes a bit to get used to the google TV, lots of options, but its pretty impressive. I like the remote, When you're working with apps has a wii like function to move the cursor around the screen by moving the remote(you can also use directional buttons) has a good keyboard on back. Loving the PIP feature where I can be in a google TV app but still watch TV. I "cut" the cord (well have basic cable now) and Google chrome (web browser) works great and I can watch allot of videos (including flash based) like HGTV (wife) and the Daily show. Also have amazon prime, so I can stream allot of shows for free (has netflix too, but no Hulu on any google tv)
Comes with 2 IR blasters to control your cable box (if you have one, has built in OTA tuner) and AV equipment. I have a Tivo for DVR (Google TV right now has no DVR abilities but can control DVR's with IR blaster) and the TV controls it pretty good (see below)
